John Terry had nothing but kind words to say about Thiago Silva after the pair crossed paths following Aston Villa’s win over Chelsea yesterday.
Although the Blues failed to beat their Villainous hosts, they managed to finish inside the Premier League top four thanks to results elsewhere.
It ended the domestic season on a sour note, which had turned sweeter following Thomas Tuchel’s arrival in January.
Terry will certainly have felt bitter sweet towards Sunday’s fixture.
He would have been desperate for Chelsea to qualify for the Champions League, but not at the expensive of his Villa side.
However, he showed his true-Blue colours on Instagram by posting a picture of Silva’s shirt and a complimentary caption to go with it.
There is clearly great mutual respect between two of the greatest centre-backs of the modern era.
Silva had conquered Italy and France before taking the plunge in English waters, whilst Terry championed in a Chelsea shirt for two decades.
They have even faced off against each other in the Champions League whilst Silva was playing for Paris Saint Germain.
The Brazilian summer signing has taken on many responsibilities left behind by the former Blues captain, including wearing the armband on several occasions.
He quickly established himself as a leader in Frank Lampard’s camp, a duty that rolled over into Thomas Tuchel’s reign.
At 36-years of age, Silva’s career is coming to a close.
But this hasn’t halted Chelsea’s eagerness to keep the defender on for another campaign, which is certainly reciprocated by fans of the club.
