Thomas Tuchel delivered his verdict on Eden Hazard amid talk of Chelsea return

Eden Hazard’s time with Real Madrid could come to an end this summer.

The Belgian winger completed an £83.53m move to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2019 after enjoying a hugely successful spell at Stamford Bridge after joining from Ligue 1 side Lille in 2012.

Hazard won two Premier League titles, two Europa League titles, one FA Cup and a League Cup in his seven years at Chelsea and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the club’s history.

But after seeking a new challenge, the 30-year-old swapped London for Madrid a couple of summers ago and has now completed two full seasons with Los Blancos.

However, there may not be a third season with the La Liga giants for Hazard to experience.

That’s if reports coming out of Spain are to be believed.

According to El Chiringuito TV, Hazard has grown unhappy at Real Madrid and wants to seal a sensational return to Chelsea when the summer transfer opens.

Furthermore, the report claims that Real Madrid – who are looking to raise cash through player sales to fund a move for one of Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland – would be willing to accept offers in the region of €50m (£43.4m) for Hazard this summer.

Whether Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel would be interested in adding the Belgium international to his squad for the 2021/22 season remains to be seen.

With that said, the German tactician has made no secret that he’s a fan of Hazard when assessing the forward’s impact at Chelsea.

“He is a top quality player and a key player for many years at this club and this league, the hardest in the world,” Tuchel said ahead of the Champions League semi-final first-leg between the Blues and Real Madrid last month.

“So consistent. I have the biggest respect for him. He is a big player, we have many people here who know him well.

“He was a key player for this club now he plays for Real Madrid.”

Hazard did make his return to Stamford Bridge earlier in the month and caused some controversy back in Spain at the final whistle.

Whilst the majority of the Real Madrid squad cut unhappy, dejected figures, Hazard was caught on camera with a very different look.

Instead, he seemed delighted for his former club and teammates, as he was laughing and joking with Kurt Zouma and Edouard Mendy on the turf he used to call home.
