Kai Havertz hailed ‘top player’ Mason Mount after starring in Chelsea’s Premier League victory over Fulham.
Germany forward Havertz and England star Mount combined brilliantly to give Chelsea an early lead at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Havertz had only scored two Premier League goals before this weekend but doubled his tally for the season when he beat Fulham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola for a second time in the second half.
The 21-year-old was asked about teammate Mount following the 2-0 win and said: ‘He has a lot of quality on the ball. He’s a very good player.
‘He’s my age so I played against him four or five years ago for the national team, so I always knew about his quality. It’s good to play with him.
‘I think he’s a top guy and a top player so it’s easy to play with him.’
Mount has enjoyed a superb season, helping Chelsea climb to fourth in the Premier League table and reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Thomas Tuchel’s side drew 1-1 with Real Madrid in the first leg of their semi-final tie last week and welcome the Spanish giants to Stamford Bridge for the second leg on Wednesday evening.
Havertz added after the Fulham win: ‘I think it was very important. We have to come in the top four of the Premier League, that is our goal for the season and this win today is crucial for us.
‘Then, on Wednesday we have another important game so we’re happy with the win.
‘I scored very early so it gave me a little bit of confidence, it is always good to score and I’m happy to help the team. I hope I can continue like this on Wednesday.’
