Jorginho drops hint over Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea team selection vs Arsenal

Chelsea will be looking to take another giant stride towards securing a top-four finish in the Premier League this season when they lock horns with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge this evening.

The Blues, who will head into this evening’s contest looking to secure a fourth successive victory in all competitions, will head into tonight’s London derby brimming with confidence following Saturday’s dramatic 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Although the Blues, who were beaten 3-1 by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium back on Boxing Day, found themselves a goal down at half time against the newly-crowned Premier League champions, second half strikes from Hakim Ziyech and Marcos Alonso sealed all three points for Thomas Tuchel’s troops.

Victory over City did lift Chelsea up to third in the table, but they were demoted back down to fourth place last night following Leicester City’s 2-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford. However, another win for the Blues this evening would see them leapfrog the Foxes once again back into third.

With tonight’s game acting as another big opportunity to take another giant stride towards nailing down that top-four finish, Tuchel could bring some key members of his squad back into the fold, including the likes of Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount, all of whom were rested against City at the weekend.

Another player who was handed an opportunity to catch his breath against City was Italian midfield ace Jorginho, as he was dropped to the bench and replaced by Billy Gilmour. However, with the game level pegging at 1-1 with just over 20 minutes remaining on the clock, Tuchel called upon the former Napoli star to step off the bench and try and hand his side a positive impact.

However, although the Blues have the FA Cup final to come on Saturday, meaning changes could be possible again this evening, Jorginho has all but confirmed his return to the starting line-up.

Judging by his latest Instagram post, the central-midfielder looks destined to start in the middle of the park, as he looks to try and help Chelsea make it four Premier League wins on the bounce.

Taking to Instagram, the midfield star has uploaded a fixture advertisement graphic, featuring an image of himself, the fixture and the kick-off time, suggesting that he will start this evening’s London derby.

Interestingly, other members of the Chelsea squad have done the same when starting matches this season, including the likes of Timo Werner, Mount and Chilwell.

However, it should be noted that other players, not just at Chelsea but at other clubs as well, have done the same when only being named on the substitutes bench and not in the starting line-up.

Since Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard as Chelsea head coach towards the end of January, Jorginho has been a key figure in the club’s rise up the table and run to the final of the UEFA Champions League.

In total, he has made 20 appearances since Tuchel took charge, chipping in with three goals, all of which have been penalties.

As a side note, the 29-year-old has not scored more goals against any other Premier League than Arsenal in his Chelsea career.
