In an interview for the club website ahead of Saturday’s European showdown, Sterling said that: “The only thing that can stop us are ourselves if I am honest.”
Blues fans didn’t take kindly to the City attacker disregarding the fact that Chelsea could be the main reason they lose tomorrow evening.
Here’s how they reacted on Twitter:
will come back to this if Chelsea win

The arrogance is interesting. We are happy being the underdog and it’s the story of our Champions league season. We’ll see who comes out on top

Sterling still doesn’t understand how football works?

This is definitely coming back to hunt Sterling…

What a silly statement. 😂

The arrogance is astonishing. Just puts more pressure on them while we go in as the underdog which worked for us just fine in Munich 👍🏽 https://t.co/gjKQfluTwk

Too much talk coming from them, too confident. We can use this to our advantage. https://t.co/8oGCwYUMX3

Sterling will hope his words don’t come back to haunt him when City take on Chelsea for the ultimate domestic prize.
Twice already this season Thomas Tuchel has foiled Pep Guardiola, with the England international involved in both defeats.
Not many can claim they’ve beaten Guardiola three times in one campaign; to do so in a Champions League final would be the ultimate victory.
Tuchel has the Spaniards number, but in this one-off match, all previous triumphs go out of the window.
Plus, City could argue they were without their strongest XI for either losses to Chelsea.
Guardiola will demand a reaction from his troop, something that Chelsea have to be extremely clued onto.
A vengeful Premier League champion is a very scary proposition.
However, if the Blues can re-enact their past conquests and get the game plan down to a tee, they have every chance of European glory.
