‘Sport’ reported that Joao Felix, and not Saul, has now been chosen by the azulgrana side in the swap deal with Antoine Griezmann.
The transfer market game has taken a new turn. When everything seemed to be set for a swap deal between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, everything could change.
It seemed to have been decided that Saul Ñiguez would go to Barcelona, while it would be Antoine Griezmann who ended up at the Wanda Metropolitano. However, explained ‘Sport’, Barcelona have turned the negotiation around and have asked for Joao Felix to join the club. The Portuguese would be a better financial fit.
All this because Joao Felix’s price fits better with Griezmann’s than Saul’s. In fact, the Catalan club asked for a compensation of 15 million euros in case of doing it between the Frenchman and the Spaniard, something that Atletico Madrid refused. Of course, the salary savings, essential for Leo Messi’s renewal, are much smaller. The Portuguese player earns more than the Spanish international.
It is an unexpected change that Barcelona have made. Atletico Madrid were already counting on the swap deal between Griezmann and Saul. In fact, the midfielder stayed in the gym for Thursday’s double session. Meanwhile, Barca continue to crunch the numbers in order to offer Leo Messi a new contract. The Argentinian is currently without a team with a month to go before the start of the season.
